2006 MN Public Campground News Flash
Due to budget cuts and shortfalls the following campgrounds will be closed or open for day use only for 2006.
Gull Lake Recreation Area: Day use only
Big Sandy Recreation Area: Closed
Leech Lake Recreation Area: Closed
Lake Winnibigoshish : Day use only
Pokegama Lake Recreation Area & Crosslake Recreation Area will be open on a limited basis.
If you are interested in trying to reverse this decision contact Mark Dayton, Norm Coleman, your District Representative & President. You can make a difference! These campgrounds are very important to the communities and people who visit them year after year.
Many campground options are available
in the Brainerd Lakes area. Find an alternative to the traditional
camping resort with one of the Public Camping/Recreation areas
listed below.

Crosslake Recreation
Area is located at the Pine River Dam in Crosslake Minnesota.
The Recreation Area offers camping, boating, swimming, picnicking,
fishing, and playground areas. The recreation area offers
wooded camping setting with a variety of tree species being
present, and an abundance of water related recreational opportunities.

Recreation area is
located 15 miles northeast of Brainerd on Hwy 210. The campground
is located on the northwest shore of the Portsmouth Mine
Pit Lake (352 feet deep). Mine pit lakes stocked with trout
are excellent for fishing, scuba diving and canoeing. Nearby
attractions include the Croft Mine Historical Park, and the
Cuyuna Range Historical Museum. |
